The economic contribution of the ocean has been widely undervalued across the globe for decades. It is only recently that oceans have started to become a new focal point in national and international development strategies.
In Africa, where 70% of the states are coastal, the ocean is not only a key driver for global trade but also a major source of food and energy.
However, the potential of the oceans are hardly harnessed.
This was the focus of the participants at the first ever Africa Blue Economy Forum which pulled together different stakeholders to discuss ways to harness the continent’s blue economy potentials.
The founder and CEO of Blue Jay Communications is the organiser and she spoke to ABCi on her inspiration, and why London was the ideal starting place for the forum and hope for the future.
